The Legend Behind the Name
The castle’s name, “Donnafugata,” is rooted in legend. According to the most famous tale, it translates to “fugitive woman” in Italian, referencing Queen Bianca di Navarra, the widow of King Martino I d’Aragona. She was allegedly imprisoned in the castle by Bernat Cabrera, a Spanish warlord who sought both her hand and her husband’s throne.
